TOOLS + SUPPLEMENTS

you have made the decision and you are now entering the pre-cleanse phase. it’s time to gather your nest and warm up to the idea that you are investing in yourself! here are a few supplements to consider having on hand for the next thirty days. first, i’ll highlight my most highly recommended products. following, there is a complete list of my suggestions. see what calls you.

a metabolic scale. i highly recommend you purchase the withings body smart composition scale for weekly at-home weigh-ins, and have this before the first class! you can use a different scale, but i do suggest having one that reads out fat mass (in lbs) and total body water (in lbs). the most important thing about weigh-ins is consistency. so if you plan to invest in a scale, do it up front, so you aren’t switching scales (scales all calibrate differently, and what’s more important than the number itself is how the numbers change over time).

i recommend a green juice powder (like organifi) for when you just can’t chew any more vegetables. and, still the best digestive aid i know, swedish bitters. if you are feeling bloated or constipated, have a swig of digestive bitters (you can also take it preventatively, before eating). i have tried others, but the only one i recommend is flora non-alcoholic swedish bitters. do yourself a service and order these now!

i find tracking my water intake to be very encouraging and a successful way to ensure i am drinking enough. there are two apps i can recommend: hidrate and waterlogged. you can set daily goals on both (set for at least half your bodyweight number—in ounces, ie. if you weigh 150 lbs, set goal for 75 oz.

make your liquid intake as nutritious as possible. count liquids such as water, sparkling water (no additives), broth, juice (made with low carb veg or green juice powder), herbal teas. the liquid portion of soups and smoothies count, too.

below are some recommendations for ‘cleanse-worthy’ electrolytes (this can be as simple as grey salt dissolved in water or my personal favorite). add electrolytes to your water in the morning to help you absorb more throughout the day! add lemon to warm water in the morning to stimulate the digestive system.

i do recommend having a plant-based protein powder, not just for post-workout recovery, but for any time you want to supplement a meal and/or have no time to cook. more on that later. for now, hands-down, my favorite protein powder is truvani vanilla. there are other flavors as well. other pre-approved plant-based organic protein powders are listed below (under workout, pp. 6-7). a blender will be a huge help—i suggest some below, but many will work just fine.

grab a bag of dandy if you have anxiety around eliminating coffee!

a tongue scraper to remove overnight detoxed build up.

if you don’t already have a solid water filtration system, i recommend filling up 5 gallon jugs at your local grocery store (most have reverse osmosis and/or purified alkaline water). if you want to invest in your own home solution, i suggest a berkey filter below.

finally, when shifting to a plant-centric diet, your best friends will be debbie meyer greenbags. these things keep your produce from rotting, maximizing your time to figure out what in the world to do with all those (still) fresh veggies! i can’t explain exactly how they work, but trust me—they work.
